Tuscany has long held an appeal for dreamers seeking a happier life, particularly those from Great Britain. The poet Shelley was an early adopter, as was the artist Turner – these two were down here as soon as the Napoleonic wars had ended and the roads were safe again. People have been coming ever since, though as recently as 50 years ago you might still have been able to afford a farmhouse with a view like this.
